Mobile spill containment tray for transformers
Mobile spill containment tray for transformers
The flexible spill containment tray is designed for indoor and outdoor use and is suitable for oil transformers of various sizes, from small to large . It can be quickly assembled and disassembled and offers a storage capacity of up to 180 m³. The support frame consists of standardized elements, each 2 m long.
To provide you with a suitable offer, we need the following information from you:
- Total weight of the transformer
- Weight or volume of the insulating oil it contains
- Type of insulating oil: Mineral or vegetable?
- Installation: Indoor or outdoor?
- If the area is outdoors and not covered: Do you need a rainwater filtration system?
- Do you require complete containment of the entire oil volume in the drip tray?
- Will the transformer be operated directly on the containment tray, or do you require a temporary containment tray? If temporary, for what period of time? 1 year, 3 years, or longer?
- Do you need a self-extinguishing fire protection system?

Temporary containment tray for transformers
The support frame of the mobile transformer containment basin consists of standardized modular elements, each 2 m long:
- Fixed height = 600mm
- Internal dimensions of the smallest containment tray = 2m x 2m, consisting of:
- 4 corner legs with widened base (2 holes Ø12)
- 4 pipe profiles
- 1 bag of M8 hexagon screws
- For larger sizes, additional intermediate legs and tube profiles are added in 2m increments, as well as tube profiles as base struts on each side.
Special geomembrane (TOR or CLASS) resistant to hydrocarbons and chemicals as well as transformer oil (resistance may need to be requested/checked beforehand) and adapted to the ordered frame dimensions.
Additionally, an optional extra 30 cm yellow tarpaulin is fitted to the underside of each foot to increase wind resistance.
Dimensions of the mobile containment tray for transformers
- Each a multiple of 2 m
- Total height: 60 cm
- Working area depth: 43 cm
- Structure: Galvanized steel
- Geomembrane: High strength, oil-resistant certified
Installation: The temporary transformer containment basin is supplied with geotextile layers that are placed underneath to minimize ground irregularities and inside the basin to contain the equipment. It can accommodate steel or wooden plates for load distribution before concrete support beams are placed to support the transformer.
The temporary containment basin must be installed on a prepared surface (without unevenness, concrete slabs, etc.). The transformers must not be in operation or connected to the power grid. The containment basin is for storage purposes only. The structure is arranged around the geomembrane, and the pipe profiles are inserted into the sleeves and mounted to the legs. The legs are then secured to the ground with bolts/piles.
Each side can be mounted separately to access the containment basin and unload material. When driving into the containment basin, walkways are required to prevent damage to the membrane.
Options:
- concrete support beams
- Load distribution plates
- Running tracks
- Drain valve 1½" or 2"
- Safety siphon 1½" or 2"
- Pre-filter bag or sheet
- Not recommended: Filtration system installed downstream of a drain valve to drain rainwater while collecting hydrocarbons and trapping pre-filter bags - additional documentation available upon request.
Delivery time: Within 4 to 6 weeks after receipt of the customer's order.
For stable storage, we also offer stackable support blocks for transformers that can bear a weight of up to 174 tons.
