   For legally required weighing operations that are evaluated and processed via a connected PC (e.g., printing a delivery note via a PC instead of a printer directly connected to the scale) , the Weights and Measures Act mandates electronic archiving using a tamper-proof, verifiable data storage device as part of consumer protection measures . KERN's alibi storage devices meet this requirement. They enable paperless archiving of weighing results . With KERN, the alibi storage device is integrated directly into the scale, between the weighing process and the output to the PC. All data transmitted to the PC is stored for at least three months, including the date, time, and all relevant weighing values. These stored data records can be viewed on the scale at any time. The data in the alibi storage device can only be deleted, not modified.

Professional data acquisition and transmission for scales and measuring instruments

There are two ways to transfer data from the scale to your ERP system:

1) BalanceConnection SCD-4.0 Pro from KERN & SOHN is a powerful software for the flexible acquisition and transmission of measured values . It supports numerous scale and measuring device interfaces (RS-232, USB, Bluetooth, and LAN/WLAN) and enables seamless integration with Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL databases, and ERP systems such as SAP or Sage. When the cursor is positioned on the corresponding data entry screen or field (e.g., in SAP) for weight, the weight can be easily transferred from the scale via keystroke simulation by pressing a button on the scale (e.g., the Print Screen button).

2) An alternative is data transmission via the KCP protocol – download information here . "The KERN Communications Protocol (KCP) is a standardized interface command set for KERN scales and other devices. KERN devices with KCP can thus be easily integrated into computers, industrial controllers, and other digital systems. In some programs, scales can be easily connected and this KCP protocol read, or an interface can be configured or programmed accordingly. Your SAP consultant can best answer which options are available to you."
